PUTATAN: A man sacrificed his life trying to save his son from drowning after their car landed in a pond in front of a construction site at Kg Jalan Imbaan Sailan, here, on Sunday.

Lasibi Lawahidu's body was discovered on Monday some 800 metres from where he was last seen.

His five-year-old son is being treated at the hospital after being rescued by bystanders.

The 40-year-old man was believed to have been fishing while the boy was inside the Myvi when the site suddenly collapsed, causing it to fall into the pond.

Another version of events was that the son had played with the car's gear shift, causing it to move forward before crashing into the pond.
