JPKA looking for next of kin of 5-year-old girl

SANDAKAN: The General Welfare Services Department (JPKA) of the Kinabatangan Division is tracing the family or next of kin of a girl who is now five years and eight months old.The girl, named Aina Hana Delisha (pic), was given by her biological mother known as Puan Sara to the complainant who was the child’s guardian in 2017.

The complainant said the child was handed over to her when she was one month old at the home of the complainant’s biological sister in Taman Mawar Batu 5, Sandakan because the biological mother was unable to care for the child due to financial problems.
The complainant then agreed to accept and care for the child. However, to date the child’s biological parents could not be contacted and found after they handed over the child to the complainant.
Kinabatangan Division Children’s Protector Musminah Mustain said they were currently conducting an investigation to trace Aina’s family or relatives.
“The guardian of the child made a police report on 24 January 2023 regarding this case. JPKA is conducting an investigation and this case is being acted upon under Section 17(1)(d) of the Children Act 2001 (Amendment 2016),” he said.

The family or next of kin of the child or anyone who had information about the biological mother or next of kin was requested to come forward and contact the Kinabatangan Division Protector to facilitate all matters related to the child.
