Man tries to take own life after allegedly killing wife

Kota Kinabalu: A man tried to take his life by slitting his neck after allegedly strangling his wife to death at their workers’ quarters in Jalan Pantai, Tuesday.“I was at home in Sembulan when my staff called at 9am about a commotion coming from the duo’s room above my restaurant,” said Hussin. The duo were his staff.

He called the police before heading to the premises to inspect for himself. The man is about 28 years while his wife 21. Both worked at his restaurant for one month. The woman resigned several days earlier.
“I was made to understand that a heated argument between the two was heard at about 5am,” he said, adding he did not know what caused the argument.
A neighbour, who heard the couple quarrelling loudly earlier, found the woman’s body as well as the man lying on the floor of their rented room in a Jalan Pantai shophouse here at about 5.30am.
Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said police believe the victim, in her 20s, was killed by her 30-year-old husband.

He said there were bruises on her neck, believed to be caused by strangulation, as well as injuries on her forehead.
He added that police found the husband unconscious in the same room with what they believe are self-inflicted slash wounds on his neck.

“We believe this was a marital conflict, based on what the neighbour heard earlier,” he said when met at the scene.
ACP Mohd Zaidi said the neighbour only informed police about the incident at 8am.
“The neighbour had no credit on his mobile phone so he could not call us,” he said.
He said police are still trying to piece together the sequence of events, and the woman’s body has been sent for a post-mortem. The suspect was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for treatment and is under police watch.
ACP Mohd Zaidi said investigations have begun under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
