Just restore Labuan’s status: Instead of asking for endless reports, says Chamber. Immigration also singled out
Wong (left) said that the island was struggling following the withdrawal was not an unknown matter. Daniel (right) said LCC recognises the importance of having a thriving economy that benefits all stakeholders as an organization that represents the interests of local businesses, industries and entrepreneurs on the island since 1977.
LABUAN: The Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce questioned the need for yet another report on what is necessary to uplift the island’s economy. It feels if the new unity government is serious in helping Labuan all it needs to do is restore the tax-free tobacco sales.

Chamber Chairman Datuk Wong Kii Yii said all economic sectors in the island protested when the special privilege withdrawn under Budget 2021 by the previous government.

“Numerous appeals, including memoranda, were submitted to the Ministry of Finance and other agencies and there were high expectations that the new Anwar-led government would restore this colonial-era privilege in the revised 2023 budget but was not done,” he said.
