Maybank, UOB and StanChart crowned top 3 banks in Malaysia
The Forbes survey has ranked Maybank, United Overseas Bank and Standard Chartered as the top three banks in Malaysia.
PETALING JAYA: Forbes has partnered with market research firm Statista to collect customer feedback in order to uncover the world’s best banks in 2023.

According to the survey, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) claimed the top spot for the best bank in Malaysia, followed by United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Standard Chartered in third place. Singaporean OCBC and New York-based Citibank claimed fourth and fifth place respectively.

Statista surveyed more than 48,000 customers in 14 languages and 32 countries for their opinions on their current and former banking relationships.

Banks were rated on customers’ general satisfaction (30% of the final score) and whether they would recommend the bank (30%).

The final 40% came from customer ratings in five key areas: trust, terms and conditions, digital services, customer services and financial advice.

The total number of banks varied by the size of the countries, the survey audience, and how many banks they named.

In order to qualify for Forbes’ list, each bank had to be rated by at least 250 customers. Companies do not pay to be featured on the list.

“We are truly honoured to have received this meaningful and prestigious recognition,” said Mak Joon Nien, CEO at Standard Chartered Malaysia.

“As Malaysia’s first and oldest bank for 148 years, we continue to be committed towards keeping the client’s experience at the heart of our value offering,” he said.

Standard Chartered was one of the first few banks to introduce Apple Pay to clients in Malaysia.

On top of that, it introduced SmartStocks, a one-stop online share trading platform easily accessed via an account on any web-enabled device to its customers.
