Kota Kinabalu: The girlfriend of a Grab driver who was allegedly murdered in Tuaran four years ago was shocked and cried upon seeing blood stains in the car driven by him.

Asnida Saip, an audit clerk, who testified before Judge Leonard David Shim, in the trial of a paperless Filipino Arsit Indanan, 26, said she received information there was a car parked at Indah Permai, near the bazaar area at 11pm on May 25, 2019.

“After getting the information, we rushed to the location to see if the vehicle belonged to him.

“When I arrived, Muhammad Hanafiee was not there.

“The car was locked but using a torchlight, I could see blood stains on the steering, driver seat as well as on the front mirror which appeared to have been wiped.

“There was foot mark with soil on the driver’s side carpet,” said Asnida.

She was able to identify that the car belonged to Muhammad Hanafiee because of the sticker “Fake Taxi”, and on the dashboard, a “Dead Pool” accessory as well as the car’s plate number.

Asnida also said the driver’s seat belt had been cut off, and  she probably arrived at the site around midnight.

After the police patrol arrived at the place, she contacted Muhammad Hanafiee’s family and a family member brought the spare key to Indah Permai from Kota Belud.

Arsit is accused of murdering Mohammad Hanafiee, 27, inside a Proton Saga FLX between 4am and 5am on May 25, 2019 at the roadside of Jalan Marabahai, Tuaran.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty, on conviction.

Asnida further testified that the last time they communicated with one another was on May 24, 2019 to wish his goodnight at around 11pm.

She further informed the court that the following day at around 1pm, she tried to contact Mohammad Hanafiee through WhatsApp but there was only one tick on the chat.

She then tried to call him who she has known for six year, but only reached his voice mail.

To a question from prosecution how many times she tried to contact the deceased, Asnida replied three times.

She said that after failing to reach Muhammad Hanafiee, she continued to work and tried contacting him again at around 4pm where she was directed to his voicemail.

Asnida said that she went home at 5pm and after breaking fast, tried to contact him again but to no avail.

Asnida further testified that after she failed to contact Mohammad Hanafiee, she decided to go to his house in Kingfisher which he shared with two other tenants but no one was at home.

She also looked around for Muhammad Hanafiee’s car but it was not there.

“After that, I called his sister to ask if he went back to his village but was told that he was not there.

“I then proceeded to wait at the Mamak shop at Kingfisher for one hour to see if he went there but he did not.

“I also asked Muhammad Hanafiee’s friends if he was hanging out with them but the answer was negative,” said Asnida.

According to Asnida, she knew where the deceased was living because she had accompanied him to pick up money to buy ring.

According to Asnida, Muhammad Hanafiee always informed her about his whereabouts and what he was doing. Another witness, Suffian Manan, who runs a food and drink business, informed the court that while doing business at the Bazaar Ramadhan in Tuaran, he was summoned by his uncle who told him that some children in the village found a body in the bushes around 12pm.

“As soon as I received the call, I went back to the village to meet with the latter to find out the exact location before proceeding to the area.

“I saw a corpse lying face down.  I contacted the Tuaran police station and waited for them at the place.

“At that time, I was not aware of the body’s gender,” he said.

Suffian further said that he stopped curious onlookers from going near the corpse as he was afraid they would take photographs and post them on social media. According to Suffian, the body was found in the bushes and had a tall tree as well and the place could be accessed by vehicles.

Deputy Public Prosecutors (DPP) Azreen Yas Mohamad Ramli, DPP Rozana Abdul Hadi and DPP Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution while counsel Mohd Ari Nadzrah Abd Rahman represented Arsit. Trial continues.
