Body of Lahad Datu crocodile attack victim found

LAHAD DATU: The body of a man who was reported missing after being attacked by a crocodile while fishing on the beach of Kampung Makuau last Friday was found floating at the waters in Kampung Nala Lama Tungku, here, Monday.

The body of Rusbin Asri, in his 40s, was discovered by the public at 6.45am some 15km from where he went missing.

District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Sumsoa Rashid said upon receiving a report the SAR team on the fourth day of operation went to the location.

“The body was taken to Kampung Makuau Scene Control Post for an identification process by the victim’s family before being handed over to the police for further action,” he said. Last Friday, the Fire and Rescue Department received a report about a man who went missing while fishing at 10.28pm.

The department was told that a villager saw the man being attacked by a crocodile while on a boat.

A SAR operation involving the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Wildlife Department and Civil Defense Force was activated on Saturday morning.
