Group’s role in making Kunak fest a success

KUNAK: The Kunak Volleyball Club Association stepped forward to assist in making sure various activities during the Kunak district-level Kaamatan Festival, which was held for the first time in an open area at the town padang, could run smoothly.Club President, Madcharni Mohd Jahani, thanked District Office and Kunak Kadazandusun Cultural Association for the confidence in him to contribute to the programme’s success.

The event which featured a variety of activities took place from May 9-13.
“As a sports association here, we are open to helping anyone, especially in forming ties and cooperating not only in sports but also in cultural activities, if needed.”
According to him, more than 5,000 people attended the district-level Kaamatan finals, when the Unduk Ngadau who would represent the district at the State-level was selected.
He said he and his club members had the responsibility of seeing to it that the audio system was in good working order, that the stage decorations, including the backdrop, were safe, that there was an exhibition area, that vendors tents were set up, that invited guests had seats, and that the venue was kept clean and organised throughout the programme.

“We want to thank the police, Rela and the Civil Defence Force for their assistance in maintaining public order and safety throughout the five-day programme.
“Club members also assisted in bringing local artists from across the country to liven up the programme.

“We brought in George Lian, former Terra Rossa group singer, Ali-XPDC to entertain visitors,” he said.
Easter Kelly John Aloysius will be representing Kunak at the State-level Unduk Ngadau competition.
