Held – man who robbed gold shop in Tawau
Jasmin said initial investigations revealed the suspect to be a foreigner with no previous criminal records, while a urine test found the man to be free from drugs.
TAWAU: Police arrested a foreigner in his 30s who robbed a gold shop along Jalan Dunlop with a hammer around 8.45am, Monday.

Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect broke a glass display case inside the shop and took two non-pure gold chains worth about RM500.

He said members of the public quickly subdued the man as he was making a run for it.

“A mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) police team arrived at 9.15am and cuffed the man. Taken with the suspect were a backpack, an iron hammer and two gold chains,” he said.

Jasmin said initial investigations revealed the suspect to be a foreigner with no previous criminal records, while a urine test found the man to be free from drugs. “The suspect will be brought to the Tawau Magistrate’s Court Tuesday (today) to obtain a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code and under the Immigration Act 1959/63 because the suspect is a foreigner who entered Malaysia without valid documents,” he said.
