Kota Kinabalu: The Government should have taken over the controversial gold mine in Balung which turned out to be a RM25 million scam.Merotai Asselmblyman Saifuddin Hata said that was what the Warisan Government tried to do when in power.ADVERTISEMENT
“That’s why we don’t have a share. Now the State Government only gets 1.25 million or 5 per cent in royalties. We should have at least 51 a per cent share.
“This matter went on until corruption is evident. I therefore ask that the State Government to cease all operations until the MACC completes investigations,” he told the Assembly.
Saifuddin also said there are a number of GLCs in Sabah that have “non-existent” politically appointed special officers who just claim salaries for free.
“This is not good for the State’s coffers. Say one officer gets RM2,000. If there are 50 the state loses RM1.1 million annually,” he said.
