9-year-old Sandakan boy attacked by crocodile

SANDAKAN: Kampung Batu Putih residents are warned to be careful when passing the bridge there and ensure that their children are not playing in the area or near the water.
This follows an incident where a 9-year-old boy sustained injury on his right hand, shoulder and head in trying to ward off a crocodile attack on Tuesday night.

According to his father Ubing Markum, the boy and his friend were leaving after swimming near a neighbour’s house when the incident happened during a high tide around 1pm on the wooden bridge heading to their home.
The victim was brought to a clinic and said to be in stable condition.
Wildlife Officer Hussien Muin said the Sandakan Wildlife Department investigated but saw no sign of crocodiles near the area during low tide.
