‘Datuk Roy’, MACC officer claim trial in Jana Wibawa-linked graft case

Kuala Lumpur: A businessman and a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to soliciting RM400,000 in a case linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.
Hussein Nasir, commonly referred to as “Datuk Roy”, and MACC officer Rasyidi Said were jointly accused of soliciting the amount from a Siti Dalena Berhan as an inducement for MACC not to remand a person known as Fakhri Yassin Mahiaddin in a corruption investigation.

They were also accused of receiving RM240,000 from a Syed Farid Syed Ahmad Al-Attas.
The offences were alleged to have taken place here between February and March.
The two charges against Rasyidi and Hussein were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
Hussein was also slapped with another charge under the same section of asking for RM2 million from Dalena and Syed Farid as an inducement for him to reduce the charges, amend a witness statement, and reduce the amount of bail in Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad’s corruption case.

He is also liable to a maximum 20-year jail sentence and a fine of five times the value of the bribe, if convicted for this offence.
Adam, who is the Bersatu Segambut deputy chief, is facing four corruption charges related to Jana Wibawa.

If found guilty on the joint charges, Hussein and Rasyidi will face a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine not less than five times the alleged bribe.
Hussein was granted bail of RM15,000 in one surety while Rasyidi was allowed to post bail of RM10,000 in one surety.
Judge Suzana Hussin ordered them to surrender their passports to the court while awaiting trial.
The court fixed July 20 as the next mention date.
Hussein was represented by lawyers Fahmi Abd Moin and Ariff Azami Hussein, while lawyer Hezri Shaharil appeared for Rasyidi.
Deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa prosecuted.
The Jana Wibawa programme was introduced in November 2020 by the Muhyiddin Yassin-led government as a Covid-19 stimulus initiative to help Bumiputera contractors.
