Full support if dam situated in Papar: Juil
Juil said it is time for the Water Treatment Plant in Kg Limbahau to also be upgraded.
Kota Kinabalu: Limbahau assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim pledged full support to the State government if it decides to build a dam in Papar as a measure to solve water woes in the district and West Coast.

He hoped the State government would make a right decision to resolve the water supply problem which is rather serious and affecting the people’s daily lives.

“Currently there is not enough water supply in Papar and I understand that additional supply has to be done through the emergency water supply scheme (EWSS) project in Limbahau.

“When every time there is heavy rain or drought, the water condition in Sungai Papar becomes too murky and the treatment plant in Kg. Limbahau has to stop working to avoid damage to the equipment at the plant.

“When this happens, water rationing has to be carried out. Maybe this rationing measure needs to be done to control the situation, but until when should this situation persists?,” he said.

He said it is time for the Water Treatment Plant in Kg Limbahau to also be upgraded.

“There is a need to increase the water production capacity at this plant to accommodate the increasing demand of consumers in Papar.

Furthermore, this plant is also old and has been built since the 1960s.”

“I suggest the State government through the Sabah Water Department (JANS) build a pre-sedimentation tank at the Limbahau Water Treatment Plant to address the high turbidity of river water which generally occurs when there is a heavy rain,” he said.

Juil also proposed construction of a treated water storage system in the plant in Limbahau to increase the water reservoir capacity in the area so that people can still get clean treated water even during drought and dry spell.
