Housing and Town Development Board offers 70 homes for Tanjung Aru Flat residents
“Last year, the former Minister of Housing, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said the Ministry will stop evicting until a replacement home is provided,” Junz said.
Kota Kinabalu: The Housing and Town Development Board (LPPB) offered houses to 70 residents of the soon-to-be demolished Tanjung Aru Flat since their eviction notice was served in 2021.

Tanjung Aru Assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong, in a joint statement with Umno Putatan Chief Jeffrey Nor, said LPPB low-cost houses are limited and 216 units out of the 315 are still occupied.

“A committee comprising the flat residents had petitioned for a place to move into. It was later submitted to relevant ministries and departments but until today no action had been taken.

“Last year, the former Minister of Housing, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said the Ministry will stop evicting until a replacement home is provided,” he said.

They said the LPPB invited Tg Aru UPPM Reduan Aklee to the LPPB Office to hear a briefing from Ikram regarding the costly maintenance of the structure.

“The LPPB said they do not have the funds, therefore, the residents requested to move into People’s Housing Programme (PPR) units in Kibabaig.

“But until today there was no action from LPPB. This year, the committee met with Deputy Chief Minister III and Putatan MP Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya in the hopes of ending the two-year issue,” he said.

They said Shahelmey had brought the matter directly to the Chief Minister and discussion is ongoing.

"Hopefully, the government can resolve the issue as best as possible to benefit both parties.

Residents are still holding on to the petition and will not move out until given a place to stay. The residents are 100 per cent locals and 90 per cent are from Tanjung Aru and Putatan,” Junz and Reduan said.
