SIPITANG: About 120 houses involving 600 family members in the Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd (SFI) compound quarters were given a notice to vacate the area within the range and ownership listed in gazette No.198/2022 by the Land and Survey Department (JT&U) Sipitang effective May 24.
SFI spokesperson, Jeffrey Gopog said the latest notice asks residents to vacate the area within 30 days of receipt of the notice.

According to Jeffrey, it was the third from JT&U Sipitang.
In addition to quarters, it also includes motels, bungalows and even airports within the range of the notice.
Meanwhile, the resumption of electricity supply from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to the SFI complex was agreed by SESB from end of May on prepaid basis.
“However, I was informed that the connection may not yet be implemented because the contractor appointed to manage the connection is still waiting for the operating license and electricity tariff rate from the Sabah Energy Commission” said Jeffrey.

The prepaid supply is an option for former workers who have been without electricity supply for almost four weeks as well as affecting water supply.
“My meeting with the Sipitang District Officer Awangku Raimy Pg Abd Rahman on May 24 regarding the notice, there was no final word yet because the DO could not make a final decision because it is under the jurisdiction of JT&U,” said Jeffery.

“Meanwhile, we are now receiving donations in the form of cash from concerned individuals and we use that money to pay for water delivered from Kampung Melamam. We would like to thank the individual donors,” said Jeffery.
