Viral video just a prank: Police

A video grab shows the “hooded” thief prancing out the jewellery store in the prank performance.
Kota Kinabalu: The public need not worry over a viral video supposedly showing a snatch theft incident at a jewellery shop in town here on Sunday.
The three-minute video shows a hooded man in red who grabbed a woman’s purchase and made a run for it.

City Police Deputy Chief Supt Kalsom Idris said the shop owner was contacted to confirm the incident.
“They said it was just an act, a prank, as an awareness initiative for potential victims.
The premises owner was told to lodge a police report, stating that it was just an act, to avoid creating unnecessary panic,” she said.
Kalsom advised the public not to spread false information with the video and not to believe everything on social media without verification.
