PETALING JAYA: A 13-year-old boy and his mother were arrested by Penang police yesterday after the teenager took a car for a spin in Seberang Perai.
Police also arrested a passenger, aged 13, and are tracking down the suspects’ friends.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Tan Cheng San said the driver has since been issued with court summonses under Sections 26(1) and 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without a valid driver’s licence, and underage driving.
The boy’s mother, aged 40, has been issued a court summons under Section 39(5) of the same Act for allowing her underage son to drive the car, which has been seized.
“We would like to advise parents not to allow minors to drive as it could endanger their lives and those of other road users,” Tan said in a statement.

The boy was reported to have driven the car for 2.5km before it hit a lamp post. He suffered injuries to his chin, while his three-year-old brother, who was in the car, escaped unhurt.
