Kota Kinabalu: Kelab Tenis Remaja Sandakan (KTRS) is continuing with its policy of sending young players to tournaments throughout Malaysia whenever it is feasible.
“We remain committed to giving our youngsters the chance to gain experience through participation in both local Sabah tournaments as well as tournaments in other states in Malaysia,” said KTRS President Taren Sunil Manoharan in a statement on Thursday.

One of their key players, Jonathan Joshua Manoharan, is currently participating in Leg 4 of the Tennis Malaysia Junior Tour Sportexcel 2023 which is now ongoing at the Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club in Negeri Sembilan.
Jonathan who had won the Boys 16 & Under singles title at the 1st leg of the Sabah Junior Tennis Tour in Sandakan in March 2023, is now trying to gauge his standard among his peers in Peninsular Malaysia.
As at press time he had successfully made his way into the main draw with wins over M. Naufal Hazeem (6-0, 6-0) of Negeri Sembilan and M. Afiq Mirza (1-6, 6-3, 10/5) of Perak in the qualifying rounds.
He will be meeting the tournament’s 3rd seed Marc Valentino (Selangor) in the opening round of the main draw.

Despite being a little ‘rusty’ due to lack of training and competition during the Covid-19 years, Jonathan is not letting his hopes down. He is determined to give his best in this tournament.
“Winning or losing is part and parcel of playing in tournaments. It is all part of the learning curve. Of course it is the objective of every player to be the champion but even when he loses he doesn’t really lose if he learns something from his loss,” said Taren.
