Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed five years and two strokes of the cane for taking syabu, repeatedly.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed down the sentence to Bengie Estiva who pleaded guilty, Thursday.

In meting out the sentence, the court hoped that the sentence would serve as a lesson to Bengie and public at large.
Bengie was found taking the drug on March 17 this year after his urine was tested positive at the police station here and he has several conviction records for taking drugs.
The offence under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.
Bengie was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on March 17.

After completing his jail sentence, Bengie was ordered to be placed under police supervision for three years.
