Kota Kinabalu: Four Sabahan amputee footballers have been selected to represent Malaysia in the Artalive Challenge Cup four-corner tournament starting today at EV Arena Shah Alam.

The three-day competition also features Malaysia under-23 squad, Indonesia under-23 squad and the Bangladesh team.

Nating Lendeh, Philixe Maruol, Fatnee Sardun  and Louis Simun were spotted by the selection panel  during Sabah’s maiden appearance at the National Championship last month.

State team manager Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah congratulated the four and hoped they could get in the first team.

“I hope they will be able to grab a place in the main squad to  gain as much experience as possible as this will serve as a platform for them to be selected for the Asian Cup Championship in 2024,” he said.

Meanwhile, A 11-a-side veteran  football charity tournament  organised by Sabah Amputee Football Club will be held at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) synthetic field on August 26-27.

Asraaf, who is the organising chairman, said it is a normal person’s football tournament and urged teams to particpate for a good cause.

“The purpose of organising this tournament is to raise funds to finance the activities of  amputee football clubs and teams in the state.

“In addition, five per cent of  the participation fee will  be used to purchase wheelchairs to be donated to hospitals or individuals in need,” he said.

The tournament, limited  to 24-28 teams, offers a winning prize of RM9,999.99 for the winning pool champion. Runners-up will get RM3,333.33 ,  RM2,222.22 for third place winner and RM1,111.11 for fourth placing.

In the loser pool,  only the top two teams will get cash prizes   with RM999.99 to the winners and RM555.55 for the runners-up.

The entry fee is RM1,800 and those interested are to call Asyraaf at 019-8809256 or Dr Mohd Fadhil Abdullah at 019-5770540
