Sabah must take 3 points against Penang
A CRUCIAL away game is on the cards for Sabah FC tonight (Sunday) as we take on Penang FC at the City Stadium.

We cannot afford to drop any more points in our away matches, especially before taking on the mighty JDT (Johor Darul Ta’zim) FC in the next match on Aug 9 at THE Likas Stadium.

It is not merely the three points needed to win in order to help our standing in the league table but at the same time a good performance will certainly boost the players confidence considerably ahead of the JDT game.

The match tonight seems to be a foregone conclusion in our favour with assurance by coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee that we have the players ready to take on Penang FC.

I am not too sure if there are first team players carrying any injuries but I did notice that our midfield import Telmo Ferreira has not been featured for the team in the past few games and so did new import Miguel Ángel Garrido Cifuente.

Their absence was definitely felt by the team and with Baddrul Bakhtiar also gone, Gary Steven Robbat seems to be the most available midfield player that we have apart from Irfan Fazail.

Team play is essential for the team to get the maximum points tonight and as always, an early goal will certainly help to settle the nerves.

I hope our front line trio of Ramon Machado, Darren Lok and Saddil Ramdani will come good in this game after firing blank against Selangor FC.

All the players given the tasks must always stay focussed and beware of the threats Penang FC can pose with their home advantage.

They may be sitting in 10th position and look relatively weak on paper, but they are capable and can pounce if the players are overconfident and complacency is the other biggest culprit.

It is always hard to play against a team that has nothing to lose and Penang FC might try their very best to cause an upset and none sweeter than for them to achieve it in front of their home fans.

We do not have many games left to play .We need to secure crucial points to stay in contention and it is a must win game tonight.

Let’s hope that all players are in good shape and I wish the team all the best and lets wait for a positive result.
