Great Sabah potential to thrive in medical tourism

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah, especially Kota Kinabalu, has great potential to thrive in medical wellness tourism and education as it offers a unique blend of natural attractions and modern medical facilities.
Renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes, from beautiful islands to lush rainforests, medical tourists can enjoy post-treatment recovery in a serene and peaceful environment.
ADVERTISEMENT State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew made these observations at a dinner reception hosted by the Founder of European Wellness Academy (Asia Pacific) Prof Dato’ Sri Dr Mike Chan and his Sabahan wife Prof Dato’ Sri Dr Michelle Wong at the couple’s residence at Alamesra Desa Saujana, here, on Sunday night.
Speaking to professors, doctors, specialists and other international guests from USA, Japan, India, Poland, Greece, Russia, Kazakhstan, Middle East, Africa, HongKong, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia, she said:
“I would like to congratulate Prof Dr Mike, Prof Dr Michelle and their team on the success of the just-concluded European Wellness Academy’s Summer Seminar here.
“As Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, I am pleased to know that such an event was being held here in the State to bring together more than 100 doctors and healthcare professionals from 15 nationals (including Ukranians) all over the world.”

According to Liew, compared with medical treatments in other parts of the world, medical wellness treatments in Sabah are relatively affordable, and there is a wide range of specialties that Sabah’s healthcare system covers.
On European Wellness, she noted that it has been making wonderful contributions to the medical tourism industry thus far through its holistic and integrative health management and therapy services.

“With European Wellness Clinic’s state-of-the-art technology and treatments, coupled with its unmatched 5-star service, I am confident that the brand will continue to take off as the demand for medical wellness tourism in the state grows.
“I look forward to my Ministry working closely with European Wellness and other local medical wellness communities in Sabah to make the state a destination of choice for healthcare and medical tourism,” Liew said.
Earlier, in his speech, Prof Dr Mike, who is also the Chairman cum Founder of European Wellness Biomedical Group, said with the Minister’s support, it was high time for him to focus on promoting wellness and medical tourism in Sabah, having spent the prime years of his life in Germany, Switzerland and Greece.
He won The Brand Laureate Award (2021) for his achievement in revolutionising global biological regenerative medicine and stem cells research.
Saying the European Wellness Academy is committed to promoting wellness and education tourism in the region, the senior researcher said:
“Our Summer Seminar here serves as a platform to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and explore emerging trends in the wellness industry, thereby contributing significantly to the development of wellness and education tourism in Sabah.”
