Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old Filipino was jailed a month for wearing a shirt with the logo, symbol and badge “Alpha Kappa Rho” (AKRHO) which was not approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles meted out the sentence to Jani Hassan who pleaded guilty to the charge against him on Thursday.

Jani wore the shirt at 11pm on June 26 this year in front of a restaurant in Asia City, here.

The charge under Section 50(1) of the Societies Act 1966 carries a jail term of up to three months or a fine of up to RM3,000, on conviction.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik told the court Jani was arrested during the Ops Cantas carried out at the area.

During the early interview with Jani, he confessed that he is a member of the AKRHO since five years ago.

Jani was found wearing the shirt with the symbol of AKRHO which was not approved by ROS.

The court ordered Jani to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after completing his jail sentence.
