Kota Kinabalu: D’Sha Muafit Tawau emerged overall champions in the Sabah Muaythai Expo Tawau Championship “Road to Saga” 2023, which was held over the weekend at the Tawau Basketball Stadium.
The club managed and coached by Sharon Andrea Gerald took home a total of 14 golds, 20 silvers and 16 bronzes to top the medal tally.

The gold medallists included three of Tawau’s Sabah Games (Saga) team members – Hellmi Samsir, Mohammad Syahrizan Rizal and Naveel Julian, while the others were Irmayanti Sabarudin, Darrel Julian, Yehezkiel Emang Yafet, Evyanka Qistina Ady, Muhammad Syazie Nazran, Mohd Izack Devid, Bradley Wilbert, Brenderry Melvin Wilbert, Muhd Firash Abd Halim, Muhd Farish Abd Halim and Mohammad Syahir Hazeri.
In second place were Tambuakar Muaythai Papar with 13 golds, six silvers, 11 bronzes followed by 66 Unicorns from Sandakan with four golds, three silvers and three bronzes.
A total of 176 athletes from 18 gyms/clubs throughout the State participated in the three-day competition organised by Sabah Muaythai Association and D’Sha Muayfit Tawau.
Sharon, who was also the organising chairperson, was pleased with the positive response from the participants.

She said the main purpose of the competition was to prepare athletes from the respective districts for the Sabah Games (Saga) to be held in Kota Kinabalu on December 16, and also to give exposure to the newcomers.
The closing ceremony was officiated by former Youth and Sports Minister Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah and also present were Sabah Sports Council deputy director Valerie Wong, Sabah Muaythai Association president Nazri Abdul Razak, former Tawau Municipal Council president Datuk Amrullah Kamal and chairman of the Tawau Islamic Orphan Welfare Association (PRAY) Jonah Pitah.
