Kota Kinabalu: KKAFT captured the Upko Cup 2023 in the 9-a-side Football Carnival Zone C Championship held at the Ganang field in Kepayan on Saturday.
They edged Upko Putatan C 1-0 in the final to take the crown, while in third place were Bola FC and Upko Putatan B in fourth.

A total of 16 teams from Putatan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu took part in the competition organised by Upko Youth Central Committee.
Upko deputy president Datuk Donald Mojuntin, who officiated the event, reminded the players that team spirit plays an important part not only in sports but also in everyday life.
“Every struggle no matter in sports or in any field of work or in politics, it requires team spirit to overcome all challenges.
“For us in politics, especially in Upko, team spirit is very important because only with a high team spirit can we overcome the challenges to continue fighting for the rights of the people of Sabah and in our efforts to help the government to develop our State,” he said.

Meanwhile, organising chairman Felix Joseph Saang, who is also Upko Central Youth chief, congratulated the players, team officials and all those involved in making the tournament a success.
Also present at the opening ceremony earlier were Billy Joel Dominic (Upko Penampang Youth chief cum-Special Officer to the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development), Michael Fadillah (Upko Penampang Committee) Md Rizal Mahatin (Upko Kota Kinabalu Youth chief), Rexie Gubat (Upko Ranau committee) and Mark Silak (Upko Putatan Youth chief).
