SANDAKAN: Sabah recorded the highest number of thalassaemia cases last year, with a total of 1,793 cases and 28 deaths.
State Health Director Dr Asits Sanna said the figure is equivalent to 22 per cent of the more than 8,000 cases recorded throughout the country last year.

He said Kota Marudu, Pitas and Kudat were among the districts in the State with the highest number of cases.
“It is important for parents to know their children’s health status and check whether they are carriers of thalassaemia,” he said.
