Major Malek Razak assumes command of Fifth Infantry

PUTATAN: Major General Malek Razak Sulaiman, a former Army Headquarters Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training, has assumed command of the Fifth Infantry Division.
His succeeds Major General Datuk Abdul Rahman A Wahab who has been named Assistant Commander of the Reserve Forces Division at the Kuala Lumpur Army Headquarters.

Malek Razak, when met by reporters, said in order to safeguard the security of the State, the Fifth Infantry will continue its cooperation with the Sabah Government and other security agencies.
“I am appreciative that the leadership of the Malaysian Armed Forces, particularly the Army, put their faith in me to command the Fifth Infantry.
In order ensure peace and security from outside threats that attempt to endanger the security of this State, he pledged to work with the Sabah Government and other security authorities.
He said this after the handover ceremony at the Sixth Royal Artillery Regiment Parade Field in the Lok Kawi Camp, here, Monday.

Elaborating on the collaboration with the State Government, Malek Razak said he will pay a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other agencies soon.
“I have put together a plan or programme to meet and pay courtesy calls, especially to the Chief Minister and other security agencies such as the police and so on.

“This meeting is to discuss and strengthen friendship and cooperation between agencies,” he said.
Before that, the handover ceremony started with the inspection of the 5th Division Commander’s Handover Parade by Abdul Rahman.
The event continued with the signing of the handover paper and the passing of the baton, witnessed by Army Eastern Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi.
Four detachments, totalling 357 people, 15 officers and the Commanding Officer of the Eighth Battalion of the Border Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Alias Ismail, make up the 5th Division Commander Handover Parade.
Staff Sergeant Mohammad Shahril Saharudin, the Drum Major of the Royal Malay Soldier Regiment, leads the band that accompanied the march.
Also present were the Commander of the First Division of the Malaysian Infantry, Major General Hassan Embong; 5th Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Mohd Sobirin Mohd Yusof; Commander 13 Brigade, Brigadier General Hashim Osman and Senior Army Officers.
