SANDAKAN: The Sri Sithi Vinayagr Temple in Sandakan is celebrating the auspicious Vinayagar Chaturthi festival that ends on Sept. 19.

Temple President, Ganesan Kumarasamy, said Vinayagar Chaturthi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, holds a special place in the hearts of Hindu who worship Ganesh, the elephant deity.

Lord Ganesha, is the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings, and it marks a time of renewed hope and devotion.

The 10-day event starts with the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, where devotees wake up early, purify themselves, and prepare their homes to welcome Lord Ganesha.

The idol is placed on a decorated platform or altar, and a special puja (worship) is performed, offering modak (sweet dumplings believed to be Lord Ganesha’s favourite), coconut, fruits, flowers, and incense sticks to the deity.

The final day sees the immersion of idols in water bodies, symbolising the cyclical nature of life and Lord Ganesha’s return to Mount Kailash, his heavenly abode.

One of the highlights of the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebration in Sandakan is the grand chariot procession of the deity, which will take place on Sept 19th, starting at 7:30 pm where the beautifully adorned idol is placed on a majestic chariot.

The Vinayagar Chaturthi festival in Sandakan is not only a celebration of faith but also a vibrant showcase of Malaysia’s cultural diversity.

“Don’t miss this chance to seek blessings, embrace unity and experience the joy of new beginnings with Lord Vinayagar,” he said.
