LABUAN: The Hungry Ghost from the netherworld which supposedly have been wandering in the human world the past month were sent “home’ last week in a ceremony marked with prayers and offerings at the landmark Pak Sin Miew temple (Temple of Eight Immortals).

A big pile paper money was burned amid offerings of food and lighter joss sticks. This ritual is not confined to the temple grounds as many Chinese Taoists did the same at backlines, roadsides or in backyards.

The grand celebration was on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month about two weeks ago where effigies were burned, which included that of Tau Sui Yeah (King of Hades) and his lieutenants.
