Health Department: No baby-snatching at any Sabah hospital
Dr Asits said every patient is provided appropriate treatment in accordance with laws and regulations at any health facility.
LAHAD DATU: The State Health Department has lodged a report denying any knowledge of “baby snatching” having occurred at the hospital, here, or in hospitals elsewhere in the state.

Its Director, Dr Asits Sanna, said the department investigated the allegation immediately and found it not to be true.

He said every patient is provided appropriate treatment in accordance with laws and regulations at any health facility.

“For cases of abandoned or neglected babies and children, the hospital will refer the matter to the Child Protection Officer (child protector) in accordance to the provisions under the Children’s Act 2001 (Act 611),” he said, adding it left the matter to the authorities for further action.

Police on Sunday confirmed receiving a report in relation to a portal report titled: “Baby snatching: How stateless mums lose their infants in Sabah hospital” on Sept. 15.

The report alleged that babies of stateless mums were given away without their consent

District Police Chief, ACP Dr. Rohan Shah Ahmad said it was lodged at Lahad Datu Police Headquarters at 10.40am on Saturday.

Investigations would be carried out under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Sabah Health Department takes serious note of the allegations and assures all customers at any of our facilities, that their safety and welfare are our priority.

“Our department is also committed in carrying out investigation on all allegations received to further improve our services,” he added.
