Sabah has the most diplomatic missions
According to Wong, there are five consulate-generals in Kota Kinabalu – the Consulate-General of Japan, the Consulate-General of the Republic of Indonesia, the Consulate-General of Brunei Darussalam, the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China, and the Consulate-General of Panama (Honorary).
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is the only State in the Federation of Malaysia that can boast of having the highest number of diplomatic missions and envoy representatives (16) outside of Kuala Lumpur, after 60 years of independence.

How this came about was explained to Daily Express by Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Thau, who is the originator or founder of the Sabah International Expo (SIE), which is Sabah’s Premier Trade Fair with the first biennial event that started in 2000.

Wong was the President of the Federation of Sabah Manufacturers (FSM) which first organised the SIE 2000, before bringing in the Malaysia International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) for the second SIE event. Wong also once headed the Sabah MICCI as its Chairman for many years.
