Ministry to expand use of Starlink devices in Sabah

KULAI: The Communications and Digital Ministry will expand the installation of the Starlink satellite devices in Sabah and Sarawak, especially in rural areas, said Deputy Minister Teo Nie Chin.
Teo said two of the devices were installed in Bau and Julau, Sarawak this month.

She said with this addition, seven Starlink devices had been installed, including in Johor, Perak, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
“As for the remaining three satellite devices, we plan to install them in Sabah and are in the midst of identifying the locations to install the devices,” she told reporters during the screening of the movie Malbatt: Misi Bakara in Kulai, here, Monday.
She said the installation of the devices in Sabah and Sarawak was a temporary solution as it was difficult to install fibre optic cables and other cables, especially in the interior areas.
The Kulai MP said the costs of installing the device as well as the monthly payments would be borne by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for a year.
