Kota Kinabalu: DSP Erwansyah Abd Basir is new Penampang Deputy Police Chief, taking over from Supt Sammy Newton who has assumed the post of District Police Chief.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun witnessed the handover of duties at the Penampang Police Station on Tuesday.
ADVERTISEMENT He expressed confidence that the duo who possess good dynamics would be able to maintain the legacy of good policing in the district which includes Putatan.
“With Erwansyah’s experience as Labuan Criminal Investigation Division Chief and Sammy’s managerial skills as Ranau Police Chief and Marine Police Chief (General Policing), I am confident Penampang is in safe hands.
“Majority of people in Penampang are non-Muslims and the opposite in Putatan. Sammy and Erwansyah have the advantage of keeping the harmony through understanding of both religious backgrounds.
“The crime rate in Penampang is relatively low and this safety and security must be continued,” he said.
ADVERTISEMENT He said all police personnel must possess empathy towards clients (members of the public) which is part of their service to the community.
“The clients are the reason we have this job. Treat them with respect,” he said.
