LAHAD DATU: A 23-year-old foreigner was killed following a crocodile attack at Kampung Tinagian, Tanjung Labian, here, Wednesday.

It was learnt that the victim, a general worker at a plantation was out hunting for crab with three friends when the attack occurred in the saltwater near Kampung Tinagian.

District Police Chief, ACP Dr. Rohan Shah Ahmad said, while catching the crab, the victim was snatched away by the crocodile. Rohan said the victim’s friends could not do anything as everything happened in a blink of eye.

“About 7.20am, the victim’s body was found lying face down at the seaside near ATM post in Kampung Tanjung Batu.

“The body was discovered with bite marks on his left arm and head. Scratches were also found on his chest, neck and bum,” he said.

According to Rohan, a team from Desa Kencana Police Station arrived at the scene and retrieved the body before sending the body to the Forensic Department of Lahad Datu Hospital for post mortem.

Rohan said police has classified the case as sudden death. This was the first case involving crocodile attack this year.

He reminds members of public to always be alert, especially when conducting  activities near the sea or river to avoid any untoward incident.
