SANDAKAN: Some 400 Hindus participated in the grand Vinayagar Chaturthi Festival at Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple, here, Tuesday.

Among present were the temple committee, Karamunting Community Development Leader Datuk Chew Kok Woh and Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Director, Datuk S. Karunanithy.

The auspicious festival is celebrated worldwide on Sept 19, and in Sabah, at the temple here.

President of Temple, Ganesan Kumarasamy, said the festival is to Lord Ganesha, the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the grand chariot procession about 3km from and back to the temple.

Ganesan hoped  the State Government would  provide an allocation for the event next year.
