Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s veteran shuttlers won two golds, one silver and two bronzes at the 1st Malaysia Masters Badminton Association (MMBA) National Badminton Championships held at Arena Empire Badminton Hall, Kuala Lumpur recently.
Bruni Garip was the toast of the team again as he delivered two golds and one silver.

He won the men’s singles (70) title by beating Kwek Chiew Peng 31-23 in the final and also the doubles (combined 140) title with Datuk Anthony Linggian after beating top seeds Dr Goh Kim Chuan/Loong Chee Meng.
Bruni and Anthony missed out another title following their narrow 30-31 loss to Ong Sin Ong/Neoh Cheong Kooi in the doubles (70) category.
The bronze medals came from Nawawi Sapar who lost his semi-final match in the men’s singles to Ong Then Lin 23-31 and also in the doubles with Harry Yong Boon Hiang after losing 16-31 to Chua Kok Keong/Goh Lai Yong in the last four.
A total of 175 players from all over Malaysia took part in the inaugural tournament held to rank local players for the BWF World Seniors Championships in Jeonju, SouthKorea.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli and also present was MMBA president Datuk DJ Dave.
