Obrien, Oscar Chong Xuan Cheng and Aries Eve Leong Ying Ee were selected to represent Sabah in the upcoming Melaka Fencing Championships from October 21 to 22.
SFA secretary general Raymond Chan said they are thrilled to have the championship held after the long absence due to the pandemic.
“This is a monumental moment for Sabah fencing. After four years of struggle, this championship marks a historic return, overcoming the challenges posed by the (Covid-19) pandemic.
“It also served as a crucial preparation for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) next year as we are committed to ensuring that our fencers are well prepared, and this event also provided a platform for nurturing and training athletes to international standards, marking the next step in Sabah fencing development,” he said.

He also said during the long break, the association did not rest on their laurels and continued their development programme.
“We were far from idle throughout this extended break. Through an innovative training system and the tireless efforts of the coaching team, we have successfully nurtured a remarkable group of young talents.
“These athletes not only exhibit tremendous potential but also embody the qualities of exceptional fencers, ready to represent Sabah and Malaysia in both domestic and international competitions.”
