NABAWAN: A new location for the Sepulot Health Clinic’s reconstruction has been identified.

Pensiangan Member of Parliament, Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the Sepulot Health Clinic had been in operation since the 1990s.

“Nevertheless, in the last two years, the building was declared unsafe by the Public Works Department due to earth movement. Discussions have taken place with the District Office and the State Land and Survey Department in order to seek a new, safer, and more suitable location near the town centre.

“The land is being transferred from the Land and Survey Department to the Health Department, and once the procedure is completed, the Ministry of Health will be able to include the proposed construction in the Malaysia Development Plan.”

“We will work to ensure that the construction of this clinic is prioritised in future development plans,” he told reporters on Saturday at the Health Screening Programme held at SMK Sepulot.

The Rotary Club of Likas Bay organised the event in collaboration with Keningau Hospital, Keningau Health Clinic, Universiti Malaysia Sabah Hospital, and SMK Sepulot, and it was sponsored by Arthur, who is also the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

In addition, Arthur said various discussions with the Federal Economic Planning Unit have taken place in order to prioritise the development of the facility, which would provide health services to the people of Sepulot.

“The clinic’s construction proposal will take into account many factors and will prioritise improving service quality.

“We also take into account the increase in population and the economic potential of the town which can be a stopover to Tawau, Kalabakan, Pegalongan and Kalimantan in Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, the one-day event provided general public health services such as dental and eye examinations, breast and cervical cancer screening, and hygiene guidelines.
