Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested four law enforcement officers on suspicion of accepting bribes amounting to RM300,000 from driving licence candidates and agents.
Sources said the male suspects, in their 30s, were arrested at 4pm on Sunday when they were asked to appear at the Sabah MACC office to give evidence.

“They are suspected to have committed the act in 2021 and 2022, and received bribes through middlemen in return for issuing licences to candidates without having to take a driving test.
“The modus operandi of these enforcement officers is to request and accept bribes from middlemen of between RM400 and RM1,200 from each candidate to obtain driving licences of various classes without undergoing a driving test,” the source added.

Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspects would be brought for remand purposes at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate’s Court at 9am today (Tuesday).
