Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here on Monday jailed a 58-year-old to a day’s jail and fined him RM10,500 or another three months for drink-driving.
Maraun Manggong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence at 1.10am on May 14, 2022 at Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Penampang.

Maraun was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and fined between RM10,000 and RM30,000 and lost qualification from holding or getting a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction.
The court also ordered Maraun’s driving licence to be suspended for two years.
Meanwhile, a company was fined RM3,000 for overloading its lorry.
The court ordered Fastrong Enterprise to pay the fine or three months jail after a representative pleaded guilty to driving a commercial vehicle carrying a load of 40,150kg - which is 19,150kg more than the permissible laden weight for the lorry.

The offence took place at Old Papar Road at 12.29pm on Aug 15, this year.
The offence under Section 19(1)(b)(vi) of the Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board (CVLB) 1987 carries a jail term of between RM1,000 and RM10,000 or a jail term of up to one year or both, on conviction.
