A Kota Kinabalu-Kudat boat service is possible

LABUAN: The 18 canoeists comprising 14 men and four women who paddled a gruelling 158.3km from the Tip of Borneo in Kudat to Likas Bay in Kota Kinabalu over four days and three nights recently suggested a passenger boat service between the two points.

Labuan Canoe Association Chairman Yunus Waidin, who led the expedition, said: “We paddled close to the coastline and made two stops for overnight stay at Kota Belud (Kg Rampayan Laut) and at Tuaran (Kg Lok Nunuk).”

He said the same route could be considered for a passenger boat service. Unlike Sarawak whose entire breath is served by passenger boats, the only sea link in the case of Sabah had been between Labuan and KK.

However, this ferry service which was popular was stopped after the MCO over diesel subsidy issues.
