Kota Kinabalu: An unstoppable Blarney Blink put on the afterburners and motored his way in the last 200 metres to land the prestigious Gold Cup last Sunday (Nov 19).
Blarney Blink’s victory capped an outstanding season for the owners - the Lu brothers. The brothers are passionate and long-time supporters of racing in Sabah, and this victory is indeed well-deserved for them.

“We have been racing for more than twenty years. We are overwhelmed with emotions with this historic win from our perspective. It has been well worth the arduous wait of landing a major trophy at Tambalang, and it is the Gold Cup!
“This season, we have been blessed with Blarney Blink – a true locally-bred winner. We hope he can continue to bring happiness to everyone connected with Sabahan racing,” said Gabriel Lu.
In congratulating the brothers, Royal Sabah Turf Club’s (RSTC) Chairman Datuk Peter Chin added that this year’s Gold Cup was a success, given the stronger than last year race-goers’ interest and attendance.
The day’s Guest of Honour, Melvin Ang, Founder and Executive Chairman, mm2 Asia Ltd, was on stage to present the trophies to the winning connections.

While Tambalang continues to race on Sundays until the end of the year, race-goers’ immediate attention shifts this Saturday to Kranji, Singapore, on Race 1 and Race 8.
RSTC’s Sabah Win and Kinabalu Light are scheduled to run in these two Class 5 races respectively. Sabah Win had finished a respectable third on October 28. A placing is realistic and hopefully he can go one better.

Race-goers can visit Tambalang Racecourse or RSTC’s Off-Course centres in Tanjung Aru or Keningau to watch local and Hong Kong, Singapore, Selangor and Perak races.
