MPS urged to act on rubbish and damaged elevators

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) is urged to take proactive measures in dealing with the problem of rubbish and elevator damage at the MPS Tower, here.

Tanjong Papat Assemblyman, Datuk Frankie Poon, said his team received complaints from the public recently about the rubbish and elevator problems in the MPS Tower.

“The public complained that there were four damaged elevators for public use and also rubbish strewn all over the place.

“I ordered staff to investigate the location immediately and found that the situation at the MPS tower was true.

“There were rubbish all over the place, including the stairs and the parking area and all the four lifts that have been affixed with a notice stating that they were not working since September 2023,” he said in a statement.

Poon added that after monitoring they lodged a complaint with MPS to deal with the issue immediately.

But on Nov 24, he directed his staff to re-monitor the condition of the rubbish and the damage elevators.

He was very surprised because all the elevators were still not working, and the problem of waste management was still the same as before.

“I feel disappointed that such a simple matter cannot be resolved by the local authority when they plan to increase the assessment rate from 2024.

“The local authority should provide justification and superior service to the people who pay their licences and assessment rate to the MPS.

“The time has come for MPS to take decisive action on this issue,” he said.
