Kota Kinabalu: The State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS) has restarted the initiative made in 2014 to nominate Danum-Maliau-Imbak Canyon (DaMaI) – Malaysia’s largest conservation area – as an Unesco World Heritage Site.

Its Minister Datuk Christina Liew said a series of meetings were held with relevant agencies such as the State Attorney-General’s Chamber (SAGC), Natural Resource Office (NRO), Sabah Forestry Department (SFD), Sabah Lands and Surveys Department (LSD), Sabah Parks (SP), DaMaI Management Committee (Yayasan Sabah) and Sabah Environmental Trust (SET).

“The meetings were to re-look at the dossier prepared previously and to update any changes in the area and map of the landscape (which includes forest reserves).

“My Ministry, together with the Natural Resource Office, along with the other relevant agencies, will continue to work together in preparing the dossier.
