Inspect Sipitang-Labuan speed- boat condition, authorities urged
SIPITANG: Passengers travelling by speedboat (pic) from Sipitang to Labuan want the authorities to conduct inspections on passenger boats offering such services after being drenched in seawater last Thursday.

A passenger said that the situation caused them inconvenience.

He said the speedboat left the Kg Tanjung Pagar terminal at 8.30am last Thursday and that water would splash into the boat whenever the waves hit it.

“We arrived at our destination drenched and feeling sticky from the seawater,” he said.

Water was able to enter the boat through the windows, according to him, and the boat owner should have mended the window screens to ensure it was properly secured.

He claimed that such occurrences are known to have occurred often.

The Sipitang-Labuan ride takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the weather and costs RM18 one way.

Five boats – Sibubu Jaya 1, Sibubu Jaya 2, Kaka 5, Kaka 6, and Kaya 88 – serve passengers twice daily.
