Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans who love Japanese cuisine, especially ramen, can now savour a variety of dishes at the Sabah-owned Ramenya, here in the city.

Richie and Roderic - the two young brothers who run the establishment at the Imago Shopping Mall - claimed to be setting a new trend with Ramenya, and Japanese street food at the business’s grand opening with Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe in mid-November.

The event also saw attendance of 44 finalists from Miss Tourism International 2023 (MIT2023), and Tan Sri Danny Ooi the founder of the Malaysia Book of Records.

Ramenya assures their professionalism with Japanese cuisine and adapting to local tastes.

Touching on the interior theme of the restaurant, “I want people to dine in an atmosphere that evokes an experience like eating street food in Japan,” Richie said to Daily Express.

Richie has more than 10 years of experience in F&B including in Japan.

Ramenya means house of Noodle where Ramen means noodle and ‘Ya’ is a house or home.

The restaurant does not serve pork, or have alcohol.

Their signature dish is their Torikotsu (Tori for chicken and kotsu meaning bone) broth ramen, with other types of broth also available, ranging from beef, to vegetarian and niboshi (anchovy), before the selections step over towards fried chicken, and the Japanese hanbaga, and even sukiyaki.

As for street food, he said they also offer gyoza, fried oyster meat, takoyaki, tempura prawn and calamari, among others.
