Sea shipping costs are higher for the state of Sabah compared to Peninsular Malaysia, says a minister.
Kota Kinabalu: Logistics cost is the main reason for the chicken price discrepancy between Sabah and the peninsula, said Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib.
“Sea shipping costs are higher for the state of Sabah compared to Peninsular Malaysia,” he said to a question by Pantai Manis assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here, Thursday.

“This is because the ship exchange process in Port Klang had to be done as Sabah’s local chicken operators are unable to import raw materials in large quantities.
“This causes an increase in costs estimated between 15 per cent to 20 per cent.”
