Kota Kinabalu: There are 18,853 hardcore poor in Sabah registered in e-Kasih as of October this year, said State Rural Development Assistant Minister Datuk Seri Ruddy Awah.
He said this makes up 16.5 per cent of the households registered in e-Kasih.

He also said the Government faces various challenges to eradicate hardcore poverty in the State.
Among them are the substantial number of registered hardcore poor in e-Kasih.

Ruddy also said the aid allocations have been used up this year, forcing next year’s allocations to be used for assistance programmes.
“The majority of the registered hardcore poor are over the age of the productive group, which is over 64, and some do not have skills for self-advancement.”
He also disclosed that some refused to migrate from their original location and cooperate with programme implementation.
“The profiling system for hardcore poor households to match their type of assistance has also yet to be implemented,” he said.
