University College Sabah Foundation bag overall title

Kota Kinabalu: Host University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) captured the overall title at the 2023 Sabah Zone Inter-Private Institute of Higher Education (IPTS) Sports Championship (MASISWA) that concluded on Saturday.

They won five gold, three silver and two bronze medals to top the medal tally. 

In second place were Cyberjaya College Kota Kinabalu with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals and third place went to Cosmopoint College with two golds, two silvers and one bronze.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also the Chancellor of UCSF.

In his closing speech, Hajiji emphasised the importance of sports in health, and its role to develop teamwork as well as to foster unity.

He congratulated UCSF as the organiser, together with the athletes and all the private institutions in making the championship a success.

The Chief Minister also announced that in an effort to support and help students to continue their studies after secondary school, the Budi financial assistance scheme will provide a one-off cash assistance of RM1,500 to students registered for diploma, foundation and matriculation programmes, and RM2,000 to students registered for bachelor’s degree.

Meanwhile, UCSF Vice Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris said more than 1,500 athletes from 17 private institutions of higher learning (IPTS) took part in the competition.

According to him, futsal, volleyball, badminton, netball, E-sports, chess, pétanque, bowling and aerodance were tightly contested over the four-day period.

The closing ceremony which drew some 2,000 students also saw the presence of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and Yayasan Sabah director Dato Sri Gulamhaidar @ Yusof Khan Bahadar, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UCSF.
