Kota Kinabalu: The 18th KK Christmas Celebration will take place at the Padang Merdeka on Dec 12-15.

The annual open air musical concert, themed “harmony and unity”, is jointly organised by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH) and the Sabah Council of Churches (SCC).

KKCH Deputy Director General Lifred Wong stated that the event aims to showcase the uniqueness of Sabah’s diverse cultures, ethnicities and religious backgrounds as the epitome of unity in the country.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will launch the event on Dec 12, said Wong during a site inspection at Padang Merdeka with SCC members.

On Dec 10 at 5.30pm, there will be a sunset run to raise funds for charitable homes. Yes will again sponsor the giant Christmas tree, added Wong.

“This year will feature 150 stalls selling varieties of cuisine and beverages. This is also the best time for some hawkers to earn some income to cover their children’s school expenses next year.”

SCC Deputy President Bishop James Wong said the event also provides opportunity to young people to showcase their musical talents.

“This year, we are making special efforts to use local talents but with international standards in terms of performances to bring joy and a message of hope and harmony to our communities,” said Wong.

He expressed hope that everyone, regardless of race, religion, and culture, will turn up to enjoy the moment and demonstrate the uniqueness of the Sabah’s people which has been living in peace and harmony since time immemorial.

“We want to continue preserving this legacy that we inherited from our forebears of living harmoniously with each other through friendship and love for one another with mutual respect,” he said.

“Unity is our strength, and we must cultivate it into our culture where the people share the values of friendliness, harmony, and knowing our neighbours,” he added.

Similarly, Christmas celebrations will be held in other districts in Sabah throughout the month of December, while Kota Kinabalu is the main event, he said.
